Terrible Oil rig accidents in 2017

There have been many accidents since the beginning of 2017 involving oil rigs in the United States. Though not all of these accidents have involved the loss of human life, the majority of them do involve the destruction of wildlife and other natural resources in one form or another.

In March of 2017, a 43-year-old man who was working at an oil field in Texas was killed when a piece of equipment fell off of the oil rig, where it fell on top of him, pinning him to the ground. The equipment, called a snatch block, will typically weigh anywhere between 2,500 to 3,000 pounds.

In May 2017, there were at least two deadly accidents on oil rigs in the United States. The first occurred in Weld County, Colorado on March 25. There a fire broke out on an oil rig that injured three employees and killed one. Two of the injured employees were in serious condition, one was in critical. The next occurred on March 30 in Midland County, Michigan. Here, an oil rig employee in his 20s was found dead hours after he was known to have been killed. The young man had been working by himself on a cable spool on an oil rig when he was pulled into a winch, killing him instantly.
